Following win at UFC 185, Johny Hendricks wants rematch against Robbie Lawler

Following his clear victory on Saturday night, Johny Hendricks wants to wait for the winner between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald.

For years, former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks believed that he could circumvent his terrible dietary habits but applying Mike Dolce's teaching in the final weeks leading up to his scheduled bouts. While it worked on various occasions, Hendricks was dealt a damaging blow ahead of UFC 181, where his eating habit finally caught up to him in the form of a terrible weight cut.

It was clear during weigh ins that Hendricks was suffering, yet it was only on fight night that fans witnessed just how lethargic the Texan was with his movements. It was a disappointing and abrupt end to his reign as champion.

However, less than three months later, Hendricks once again stepped on the scale ahead of his fight against Matt Brown and had little trouble making weight comfortably. Having adjusted his diet to benefit his training camp, Hendricks was required a staunch will not to stray off the beaten path.

Now that he has earned the victory, Hendricks will allow himself some of the spoils of war before returning to the gym to patiently await the winner of the welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald.

"I would like to fight Robbie Lawler again. I'm not going to lie," Hendricks said. "He's a tough dude. And you know, he's a very nice guy, which I like. I like fighting nice guys and fighting guys who you don't have a problem getting in the Octagon. But it doesn't matter."

While Hendricks has his mind set on waiting for a title shot, UFC President Dana White isn't certain that that is the best decision for the former champ.

"We'll see how this thing plays out," White said at UFC 185's post-fight press conference. "A lot of different things happen. I've seen guys say, ‘hey, I want to sit out and wait for that belt,' and they don't end up fighting for that belt for two years. So we'll see what happens. It's usually not a really good decision, but sometimes it can work. If it works out, then it will. If not, I'm sure Johny will take the option to fight."
