Female bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, could make her next title defense in hostile territory as it has been reported she could take on Bethe Correia next in Rio. Plus, Antônio Rogério Nogueira and Maurício Shogun have also verbally agreed to fight on the same card.
Ryan LaFlare and Demian Maia are about to headline a Fight Night card in Rio next Saturday, but that didn’t stop the UFC from already planning their next visit to the city.
It looks like it will be a big one too.
The date is very much settled for August 1st and the event, a pay per view, will be UFC 190. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, Tatame reports that Ronda Rousey is targeted to take on Bethe Correia in the headliner.
Plus, Mauricio Shogun and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira have also verbally agreed to meet for their long awaited rematch. The match up was first reported by Justin Buchholz at Team Alpha Male Radio, with Tatame following up with the date and event for the bout.
To make things even more positive, the current female bantamweight champ has revealed to be very fond of the idea of defending her belt in hostile territory.
"I would love to fight Bethe in Brazil, think it would be a huge event and I want to be a part of it", Rousey told Tatame in 2014.
Correia is currently undefeated and on a three fight winning streak in the UFC that includes two victories against Rousey’s "Horsewomen", Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler. The Brazilian has gathered some extra notoriety with the trash talking she’s been displaying towards the champion lately.
If that will be enough to secure her title shot while a potential super fight between Rousey and Cris Cyborg still looms in the background remains to be seen.
