Roy Nelson broke his right hand in Overeem loss; eyes fight with Josh Barnett next

'Big Country' wasn't able to blast Alistair Overeem with his big right hand like he has done to several other opponents, and it's since been revealed that he broke his main weapon in the opening round.

It's been a really rough patch for Roy Nelson over his last 5 fights. His unanimous decision defeat to Alistair Overeem at UFC 185 marked his 4th loss since 2013, and to add injury to insult (get it?) he broke his right hand in the process. As reported by Ariel Helwani on Wednesday's UFC Tonight, Nelson's wife confirmed a broken hand for "Big Country", although it isn't serious enough to warrant surgery.

While Nelson wasn't at full strength after the 1st round breakage, he still managed a late knockdown of Overeem with his left hand in the closing seconds of the 3rd, but it wasn't enough to get the win. The 38-year-old (20-11) was eager to get back into the Octagon and even asked Joe Silva when his next fight will be. Nelson is apparently up for a bout with Josh Barnett, which Barnett seems to be okay with.

Barnett (33-7) hasn't competed in MMA since Travis Browne mauled him with elbows at UFC 168 in December 2013. However, the highlight of his 2014 was becoming the first man to ever submit Dean Lister, doing so with a scarf hold choke in Metamoris last August. Barnett will compete in Metamoris again later this year against Cyborg Abreu.
