UFC president Dana White wasn't a huge fan of Johny Hendricks controlling Matt Brown with his wrestling in their UFC 185 bout.
UFC president Dana White always has his opinions about what fights he liked and what ones weren't in his wheelhouse. More often than not he tends to like fights with a lot of action, particularly on the feet. Well, that doesn't describe the UFC 185 welterweight bout between Johny Hendricks and Matt Brown. Hendricks used his vaunted wrestling game to completely neutralize Brown and cruised to a decision win. So it shouldn't come as a huge surprise when White mentioned on the FS1 post-fight show that he didn't love it:
I'm happy for Johny. Johny has come off a rough, I guess we'll call it a couple years. But I didn't love the fight. Didn't love it.
Later on at the post-fight press conference, White expanded on what he thinks might be next for Hendricks, who made it clear that he wants to face Robbie Lawler for the title again:
"We'll see how this thing plays out. A lot of different things happen. I've seen guys say, ‘hey, I want to sit out and wait for that belt,' and they don't end up fighting for that belt for two years. So we'll see what happens. It's usually not a really good decision, but sometimes it can work. If it works out, then it will. If not, I'm sure Johny will take the option to fight."
Lawler will first meet Rory MacDonald in July at UFC 189, so barring an injury, it doesn't seem like Hendricks would have to wait that long to get another shot at the title if that's the direction the UFC wants to go. But a lot can happen in a few months, so we'll just have to wait and see.
