UFC 185 results: Jedrzejczyk stops Esparza, wins strawweight title

Joanna Jedrzejczyk claimed the UFC women's strawweight title from Carla Esparza in a rout, stopping her with strikes in the second round of the UFC 185 co-main event.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is a forced to be reckoned with in the UFC's newest division. The Polish fighter claimed the women's strawweight title by dominating champion Carla Esparza, beating her from the proverbial pillar to post with massive strikes before finally getting the finish. The end came at 4:17 of round 2.

Jedrzejczyk came out very strong in the first round, stuffing almost all of Esparza's takedowns and busting her up on the feet. Esparza ate a ton of hard shots and was definitely wobbled at one point. Carla just didn't look comfortable on the feet and it showed.

It was the same story in the second, with Jedrzejczyk connecting with jabs and power shots. Esparza continued to spam takedown attempts but there wasn't a lot behind them and Jedrzejczyk easily kept her away. She landed especially hard when separating after the attempts. Finally she poured it on against the cage, peppering Esparza with brutal shots. The referee was forced to jump in right as Esparza slumped to the mat.

With the win, Jedrzejczyk becomes the first UFC champion from Poland and has the potential to hold onto the belt for an extended period of time.
