Bellator signs featherweight phenom Gleristone 'Toninho Furia' Santos

The newest addition to the Bellator MMA featherweight ranks, Gleristone "Toninho Furia" Santos, boasts an impressive 16-1 record in his last 17 fights.

Continuing its trend of signing top prospects from the Brazilian fight scene, Bellator MMA has announced that Gleristone "Toninho Furia" Santos has put pen to paper and signed on the dotted line with the combat sports promotion.

Santos boasts an enviable MMA record since he started fighting professionally at the age of 16. Now 26 years old, Santos is 27-4 in his career, having won 16 out of his last 17 fights.

Were it not for an encounter with world-traveled MMA veteran and jiu-jitsu black belt Carlo Prater at "Capital Fight 4" in Brazil on Sept. 6, 2011, Santos would be undefeated in the last six years. Prater won that fight (the main event) via armbar.

They say you learn more from a loss than a win in MMA, which may be why Santos is on a nine-fight winning streak right now, and why Bellator was eager to sign the featherweight prospect.

Santos joins the likes of new bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao, the Bellator 136 upset winner Rafael Carvalho, Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire, and welterweight champ Douglas Lima, just to name a few.

It can in fairness be argued that Bellator has one of the deepest rosters of Brazilian talent of any major promotion.
