Benson Henderson offers to save UFC 186 after Rampage fiasco

Well, it looks like the UFC has at least one offer on the table to bolster their flagging UFC 186 PPV. Former lightweight champion Benson Henderson is throwing out a welterweight challenge.

Benson Henderson has been re-shaping his image lately. No longer just a conqueror of ugly split decisions, he's now making a name for himself as the guy the UFC can call whenever they need a last minute fight booked at lightweight of welterweight. And after this recent debacle with Bellator and Quinton Jackson, they could really use a savior.

UFC 186 has taken a series of heavy blows to it's PPV appeal over the last couple months. Originally meant to feature T.J. Dillashaw defending his title against former champion Renan Barao (a rematch of their UFC 173 battle), the card was re-shuffled after Dillashaw withdrew due to a rib injury. In his place atop the card is now Demetrious Johnson defending the flyweight strap against Kyoji Horiguchi. But, that's not all, a planned bout between Hector Lombard and Rory MacDonald was scrapped after Lombard failed a drug test, pushing the return of Rampage Jackson into the co-main event against Fabio Maldonado. Now Jackson is off the card too.

All of which leads us to Benson Henderson's offer:

All the crazier is that Henderson wouldn't even be able to jump straight into camp, as he's in Poland this week, to watch Yaotzin Meza fight:

No official word on whether the UFC is considering Henderson's offer. And it doesn't look like any UFC welterweights have taken to Twitter to jump on Henderson's challenge. Anyone know what Rick Story is up to?
