New lightweight Dustin Poirier wanted a quick turnaround to fight in his home state in June, and he's getting it.
Dustin Poirier had his request granted. The Louisianan wanted to fight in his home state on the UFC's June 6th card in New Orleans and after a big first-round win this past weekend, he is set to face off with Yancy Medeiros in a lightweight contest on the card. The fight was confirmed by the UFC earlier today.
Poirier (17-4, 9-3 UFC) moved up to the lightweight division for last weekend's fight after a long run in the UFC as a featherweight. It took him less than four minutes to dispatch of Diego Ferreira, and he picked up his fourth performance bonus in the process.
Medeiros (11-2, 1 NC, 2-2, 1 NC UFC) has picked up two submission wins in a row, the most recent coming over Joe Proctor in December. He picked up performance bonuses in both those bouts.
UFC Fight Night 68 takes place in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader.
