After initially announcing all the fighters at UFC Fight Night 62 had their drug tests come back clean, the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) had to reverse course today.
Jorge de Oliveira tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol, the CABMMA today announced. De Oliveira has been suspended for one year, retroactive to the March 21 event date in Brazil.
UFC Fight Night 62 took place at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. It aired on FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass.
The CABMMA, in a statement, said a communication error was to blame for its initial announcement that all the fighters’ tests came back clean. The commission said de Oliveira’s sample was sent back a day apart from the initial report, which caused the delay.
MMAjunkie initially received a prepared statement from the UFC-backed commission stating all fighters were tested for performance-enhancers and drugs of abuse during this past month’s event. Additionally, six randomly chosen fighters were tested for erythropoietin (EPO).
De Oliveira (7-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) had a rough time on the preliminary card against Christos Giagos (11-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who made his grappling advantage pay off quickly. He got to full mount in the first round, then eventually forced de Oliveira to tap from a rear-naked choke at the 3:12 mark.
The UFC has yet to make a formal announcement regarding de Oliveira’s positive test.
