TUF 1 alum Mike Swick will enter the octagon for the first time in over two years at UFC 189.
Remember Mike Swick? The light heavyweight on TUF 1 that was nowhere near a light heavyweight? The guy that won nine of of his first ten fights in the UFC before having some medical issues that had him in and out of the sport for years? Well, he's apparently back in again and will be competing at UFC 189.
Swick (15-5, 10-4 UFC) will return to the welterweight division and take on Canadian product Alex Garcia at the event, scheduled for July 11th in Las Vegas. It will be Swick's first fight since Matt Brown knocked him out way back at UFC on Fox 5 in December 2012.
Swick has been spending a lot of time in Thailand as of late, opening a branch of American Kickboxing Academy there. It seemed like he was destined for retirement after the Brown loss, especially with the esophageal spasms he was dealing with along with a history of injuries. But it looks like the 35-year-old wants to give it one more shot.
Garcia (12-2, 2-1 UFC) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 49 in August.
