Since his first win over Mirko Filipovic, UFC heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga has filled out his highlight reel with impressive feats on the mat and on his feet. Is it enough for the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt to make it 2-0 against “Cro Cop”?
We’ll find out Saturday, when Gonzaga (16-9 MMA, 11-8 UFC) and Filipovic (30-11-2 MMA, 4-6 UFC) rematch in UFC Fight Night 64’s heavyweight headliner.
The event takes place at Krakow Arena in Poland, and the entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.
“Cro Cop,” who returns to the UFC for the first time since 2011, made a highly anticipated promotion debut in 2007. But in two UFC stints, he failed to live up the success he produced during a legendary run with the now-defunct PRIDE organization.
In fact, it was Gonzaga who delivered Filipovic his first UFC loss back in 2007. And Gonzaga actually used Filipovic’s go-to weapon – a high kick – to get the win.
Since that win, Gonzaga is just 8-8 (“Cro Cop” is 8-6), and he’s currently trying to snap a two-fight skid. But he’s faced the elite of the heavyweight division during that time, and he’s produced many memorable moments.
Ahead of Saturday’s rematch with “Cro Cop,” check out some of those career highlights above.
