Ronda Rousey Appears on Cover of Latest Self Magazine

Another fight, another layer of fame for Ronda Rousey.

Rousey, who defends her UFC women's bantamweight title against Holly Holm on November 15, has largely remained in the public eye since her last fight a few months ago. On Monday night, Self magazine released its November issue, with Rousey gracing the cover.

Rousey herself tweeted the cover and her thanks Tuesday night.

In Molly Knight's accompanying interview, part of which was published online, Rousey recounted a story of her school-age days, in which she fought for Frappuccinos in her hometown of Santa Monica, California.

After school, my friend and I would go to the Promenade, where a lot of shady characters hung out. I loved Frappuccinos, but I only got $5 a day for lunch. If I ate, that meant I didn't have enough money for a Frappuccino. So we would go over to these kids and say, "I bet you $10 I could beat up any one of you." There were always some guys who could use the money. We'd fight and I'd do something to get them to give up, and they'd give us $10 and we'd go get Frappuccinos. ... That was, like, my side gig for a little while.

Apparently Rousey is a big fan of coffee drinks. Who knew?

The 28-year-old Rousey (12-0) has been a popular fighter for some time now, but in the past few months she has achieved crossover successes that are the stuff of promotional dreams.

For example, earlier this month, she co-hosted—didn't just appear on, but actually co-hosted—an episode of SportsCenter.

In September, she made a memorable appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, applying an armbar to a show producer and, in the process, introducing MMA to an audience that had probably seen very little, if any, of the sport to that point.

Rousey's title defense will come at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. It has been speculated that the event could set ticket-sales records for that country.
