Dana White is to reportedly consider Mickey Gall as a possible opponent for Phil Brooks, aka CM Punk, when he makes his debut in the UFC.
According to MMA Junkie, Gall caught the eye of the UFC president while he was in Philadelphia filming Dana White: Looking for a Fight, and White is now "interested" in what he can offer. The piece noted the youngster submitted his opponent with White in situ, and the 23-year-old boldly suggested he could be the man to welcome CM Punk to professional MMA.
“Hey Dana White, I don’t know if CM Punk has an opponent but I would love to fight that man,” Gall said to White, per MMA Junkie.
White responded by saying, “I like where your head’s at."
On his Twitter feed, Gall also made it clear he’d love to get inside the cage against the former WWE superstar:
As reported by MMA Junkie, Gall won his only professional MMA bout to date. He’s based in New Jersey and is mentored by brothers Jim and Dan Miller, who have been regulars on the UFC scene.
There’s been no set date for Brooks’ bow in the brand. White previously claimed in a Q&A session Punk will be seeking to make his debut at some point this year “probably before summer,” per MMA Junkie. Speaking to ESPN.com (h/t Brent Brookhouse of MMA Junkie), Brooks’ trainer, Duke Roufus, claimed a shoulder issue put the brakes on an appearance in 2015.
Punk is well known due to his time in WWE, during which he enjoyed the longest title reign of the modern era, stretching a whopping 434 days. He announced in 2014 he’d be swapping the ring for the Octagon, and the prospect of seeing the 37-year-old in action in the UFC, and the news of a possible opponent, will have plenty excited.
