Kimbo Slice Dead at Age 42 After Being Hospitalized

MMA fighter Kimbo Slice died Monday at the age of 42.

Bellator President Scott Coker released a statement regarding the news:

We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family. One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.

Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo's friends, fans, and teammates.

TMZ Sports reported earlier Monday that police turned to family members for information after Slice was taken to a hospital near Coral Springs, Florida.

Slice's last fight came at Bellator 149 in February, when he defeated Dada 5000. That win, however, was overturned to a no-contest after he "tested positive for the steroid nandrolone and also had an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio," per Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting.

Slice earned fame on YouTube before fighting professionally thanks to his powerful strikes and punching ability in street fights in Miami. He had a 5-2 (1) MMA record.
