Alistair Overeem looked very good in his UFC 185 fight against Roy Nelson, picking up a unanimous decision victory.
Alistair Overeem's suspect chin reared its ugly head near the end of his UFC 185 bout with Roy Nelson, but he managed to hold on and take a unanimous decision win. Overeem largely dominated with his striking, battering Nelson until he was bright red. Nelson connected hard once in each round, but it wasn't even close to enough.
The fight started quite slowly as the two men felt each other out, and it took 50 seconds for Overeem to finally do anything. But once he got going, he really put it on Nelson over the course of the first round. Basically he used three weapons - oblique kicks, outside leg kicks, and knees. Lots, and lots of knees. Nelson cornered him once and beat him up a bit, but it was his only meaningful offense of the round.
The second was more of the same - Roy was bright red in multiple spots from hard kicks. He landed one big right that got Overeem's attention, but Alistair continue to beat Roy up. Nelson got clubbed with a hard knee to the groin in the third, but managed to continue after a short break. Overeem continued his kicking and kneeing assault, but got dropped by a left hook very late in the fight. He was hurt, but managed to hold on to Nelson until the end of the round to seal the victory.
Overeem picked up his second win in a row, while Nelson has now lost four of his last five.
