Henry Cejudo looked excellent in his UFC flyweight debut, taking a dominating unanimous decision over Chris Cariaso at UFC 185.
Henry Cejudo cleared a large hurdle when he was able to make the flyweight limit of 125 pounds yesterday. Today, he put it on Chris Cariaso in the opening main card bout of UFC 185 in Dallas. The Olympic gold-medalist outworked Cariaso over the course of the 15 minutes, taking the unanimous decision with three 30-27 scores.
Cejudo was never close to finishing the fight, but his high striking output had Cariaso thinking the whole time and didn't give him a chance to implement his own game. Mix in the ever-present threat of a takedown from Cejudo, and the fight was fairly one-sided. Cejudo did score a few takedowns over the course of the fight and scored with some strong ground and pound, but he landed most of his damage at range and in the clinch
Cejudo (8-0) now has a win in the 125-pound division and two in the UFC overall. In a division short on new contenders, he's exactly what the UFC needs. Cariaso (17-7, 7-5 UFC) has now lost two in a row, the first of which coming at the hands of flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
