UFC 185 results: Johny Hendricks wrestles his way to win over Matt Brown

Johny Hendricks returned to his routs and thoroughly controlled UFC 185 opponent Matt Brown with his wrestling, taking a unanimous decision victory in his home state.

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Henricks was a national champion wrestler in college, but hadn't employed much of it in his recent MMA bouts. He changed that up in his much-anticipated UFC 185 bout with Matt Brown. Hendricks kept the pressure on Brown for the entire fight and scored multiple takedowns in every round, which led to a unanimous decision victory. All three judges had it 30-27.

Brown was never really able to get anything going because as soon as he landed a strike or two, he was fighting off a takedown against the cage or he was on his back. He was warned a couple of times for cage grabbing as well. Hendricks was never close to finishing the fight at all, but it was a wrestling clinic over a guy that's a pretty decent wrestler himself in Brown. Brown tried to threaten with a triangle a couple of times from the bottom but didn't put Hendricks into any danger.

With the win, Hendricks (17-3) is right back in contention to get another welterweight title shot. Brown (19-13) has now lost two in a row since his seven-fight winning streak in 2012-14.
