It’s been a slow, but steady climb for Ryan LaFlare. This week, it culminates in his first UFC main event.
LaFlare (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) puts his unbeaten record on the line in hostile territory in Brazil against home-country fan favorite Demian Maia (19-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC), a former middleweight title challenger.
Despite LaFlare’s unbeaten record and perfect 4-0 start in the UFC, he hasn’t yet cracked the Top 18 of the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA welterweight rankings. (Maia is No. 10 in our latest poll.) But that would likely change if LaFlare gets past the Brazilian on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 62, where he is a mild favorite over Maia.
UFC Fight Night 62 takes place March 21 at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass.
But before that fight, watch LaFlare’s most recent bout, a decision win over John Howard nearly a year ago that snapped Howard’s four-fight winning streak.
