UFC Fighter rankings: Dustin Poirier still ranked at featherweight

The UFC rankings panel had a spectacularly painful week, failing to drop Dustin Poirier from the featherweight division despite him fighting in a whole different weight class over the weekend.

Hey, people. I'm back from vacation and ready to vent my anger at something. Should it be UFC 186, which right now is about as relevant as Kenda Perez? How about MMA judging, which surprised Jorge Masvidal worse than Toby Imada did back in the day? No, I think I'll stick to my favorite punching bag - the official UFC rankings. Because the dunderheads really messed up this week.

If you're a member of the UFC rankings panel, that would imply that you actually watch their events. Maybe some might think that's a stretch, but I don't. Well there was a UFC event last weekend, and it featured a fighter named Dustin Poirier. Mr. Diamond was ranked at number six in the featherweight division, but decided that the weight cut was too much so he moved up to a lightweight. You know, a different weight class. 10 pounds higher. Nothing feathery about it.

Yet despite knocking out opponent Diego Ferreira in impressive fashion and winning a performance bonus in the process, a portion of the UFC rankings panel (remember, the people that apparently watch the sport they're ranking) still see fit to rank him at 145. The division he DID NOT FIGHT IN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

This isn't a shot at everyone on the panel - after all, he did drop seven spots at 145, all the way down to 13. You panelists that pulled him from your 145 lists did your job, and I'm happy for you. Here's a hero cookie. But you dunderheads that didn't? I wish there was an island we could vote you off of. You are the weakest link(s). Goodbye.

Let's look at all the other changes before I continue on this tirade and chuck my red bull across the office.

Pound-for-Pound - Anderson Silva has re-entered the top 10 of the P4P rankings, pushing Anthony Pettis to number 11. It seems that my tirades aren't for nothing (wait, yes they are).

Heavyweight - Frank Mir passed a guy that he has a win over, Roy Nelson, for the 10 spot. And Antonio Silva moved up to 12, dropping Matt Mitrione to 13.

Light Heavyweight - Dan Henderson moved up one to 14, bumping Patrick Cummins to 15. Guess we won't be ranking Rampage Jackson any time soon! LOL!

Middleweight - No changes.

Welterweight - No changes.

Lightweight - Tony Ferguson moved up one spot to number 12, dropping Jim Miller to 13. Al Iaquinta passed Jorge Masvidal for 14 after his controversial split decision win.

Featherweight - That whole Poirier thing. Argh. This caused Nik Lentz to move up to number 7 (really?), while Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway are up to 8 and 9 respectively. Clay Guida re-enters the top 10 with his win over Robbie Peralta. Dennis Siver moved up to number 12.

Bantamweight - No changes. Injuries. No title fights. Does anyone ever fight in this division? You know you're kicking some serious bootay when World Series of Fighting is running more 135-pound fights than you are. Seriously, the last UFC men's bantamweight fight featured the ghost of Kid Yamamoto poking some kid in the eye 63 times.

Flyweight - John Lineker moved up a spot at 125, despite being banished to bantamweight! Someone ate their allotment of glue this week! Ali Bagautinov dropped to number seven as a result.

Women's Bantamweight - Julianna Pena's return win moved her up two spots and into the top 10. Jessica Andrade fell two to number 12.

Women's Strawweight - Rose Namajunas passed Jessica Penne for the three spot, while Paige VanZant moved up one spot to 10 because she has a fight next week and it looks good on Fox. This dropped Heather Clark to 11.
