UFC Poland results - Mirko Cro Cop rallies, finishes Gabriel Gonzaga in 3rd round

Check out the result from the main event between Mirko Cro Cop and Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC Fight Night in Krakow, Poland.

When Mirko Cro Cop (31-11-2, 1 NC MMA, 5-6 UFC) fought Gabriel Gonzaga (16-10 MMA, 11-9 UFC) in 2007, the MMA world witnessed the "head kick heard 'round the world" when Gonzaga KO'd him in the UFC 70 main event. Cro Cop made his UFC return after a 4 year absence, headlining the UFC's debut trip to Poland with a chance to avenge his loss to Gonzaga.

A very tentative looking Cro Cop didn't offer up much offensively, with Gonzaga connecting with his power right hand on multiple occasions and forcing Mirko to backpedal. Gonzaga took Cro Cop down, mounted him, but in an unexpected sequence, Cro Cop went for a heel hook on the BJJ black belt, only for Gonzaga to counter with the same move. Neither man tapped and round 1 ended with Gonzaga with the upper hand.

Round 2 NEARLY saw Cro Cop land his trademark left high kick, but Gonzaga evaded it and then clinched up against the fence and kneed him in the ground. Later on, Gonzaga took Cro Cop down again, mounted him, lost mount, then got it again and cut up Cro Cop badly with hard elbows. Gonzaga angled for an armbar or an americana but Cro Cop thwarted both attempts.

Gonzaga started to tire in round 3 and Cro Cop was able to stuff the takedowns, and Mirko turned the tide dramatically with two standing elbows in the clinch as Gonzaga went for another takedown. The elbows wobbled Gonzaga who desperately shot in but Cro Cop sprawled, soon got on top, and then battered Gonzaga with a series of brutal, sharp elbows and punches on the bloodied Brazilian to get the come-from-behind win in front of a raucous crowd in Krakow.

Official Result: Mirko Cro Cop def. Gabriel Gonzaga via TKO (strikes) at 3:30 of round 3

It's Cro-Cop's first win in the UFC since beating Pat Barry in June 2010. Gonzaga meanwhile drops his 3rd straight inside the Octagon.
