A look at the early afternoon Saturday, April 4th UFC event on Fox Sports 1 in Fairfax, VA, where featherweight contenders Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas square off in the main event.
The UFC doesn't normally host daytime events in the United States, but with the NCAA college basketball Final Four taking place that evening, MMA fans are treated to a special "UFC Fight Night" except the card starts in the morning. The main event of this Fox Sports 1 show in Fairfax, Virginia pits Chad Mendes against Ricardo Lamas in a featherweight scrap, with Mendes coming off his thrilling decision loss to Jose Aldo last October. Jorge Masvidal has had three different opponents scheduled for his co-main event slot -- first Bobby Green, then Ben Henderson, and now he's facing Long Island's Al Iaquinta.
Aside from the first two bouts on the preliminary card, the entire lineup consists of fights at weight classes no heavier than 155 pounds. Former featherweight contender Dustin Poirier kicks off the main broadcast with a lightweight tilt vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira, while TUF 18 winner Julianna Pena returns from her knee injury to take on Milana Dudieva.
Here's the lineup for next Saturday's special event:
