TORONTO – After what he called “the biggest first quarter” in company history, UFC President Dana White is jazzed about the upcoming UFC schedule.
“The last first quarter was the biggest first quarter in the company’s history,” White said. “Our second quarter is looking good, too. In Mexico, we’re sold out in Mexico. We’re actually going to beat our last gate. The Jon Jones fight is a $6 million gate, which is the fourth-largest in MGM history with us doing fights there.”
The most prominent fight on that schedule, of course, is the UFC 189 headliner between featherweight champion Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and No. 1 contender Conor McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC).
White, Aldo and McGregor – as well as UFC 189 co-headliners Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald – have spent more than a week traveling the world to promote the July 11 event, which takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena and airs on pay-per-view.
MMAjunkie caught up with White on the Toronto leg of the “UFC 189 World Championship Tour” to discuss upcoming events, what organization has been the most meaningful purchase for the UFC, as well as drug testing and regulation in MMA.
